Understanding ED

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is when you cannot get or keep an erection firm enough for sex. It is common, affects men of all ages, and becomes more likely with age. Occasional difficulty is normal, but ongoing problems can point to an underlying health or psychological cause. The good news is that ED is treatable in most cases.

An erection relies on the brain, nerves, blood vessels, and hormones all working together. When one part is disrupted, sexual function can suffer. Common physical causes include poor blood flow, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and smoking. Psychological factors matter too, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship worries. Performance anxiety can even become self-fulfilling, where worrying about sex makes the problem worse.
