Mounjaro Injection: Key Info

Mounjaro is a once-weekly prescription injection containing tirzepatide. It is used to support weight management in adults, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

How It Works

Tirzepatide works on two natural gut hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1. Together, these help control appetite and blood sugar. Mounjaro slows how quickly the stomach empties, helps you feel fuller for longer and reduces hunger, which makes it easier to eat less over time.

Why Choose Mounjaro

Mounjaro is taken just once a week using a simple pre-filled pen, so it fits easily around daily life. The dose is increased gradually to help your body adjust and to reduce the chance of side effects.

It works best as part of a wider plan that includes healthier eating and regular activity. Your prescriber will guide your starting dose and any changes.

Important Note

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine and is only supplied where our medical team judge it to be safe and appropriate for you. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. It must be used under the supervision of a qualified prescriber.

Directions

How to Use:

  • Inject Mounjaro under the skin once a week, on the same day each week.
  • Use the stomach, thigh or upper arm, and change the site each time.
  • You can use it with or without food.
  • Follow the dose schedule your prescriber gives you, as the dose is increased slowly over time.
  • If you miss a dose, take it within 4 days if you can. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take your next dose on the usual day.

Warnings

Do not use Mounjaro if you:

  • Are allergic to tirzepatide or any of the other ingredients.
  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
  • Are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Cautions:

  • Tell your prescriber if you have a history of pancreatitis or gallbladder problems.
  • Mounjaro may reduce how well the contraceptive pill works, so use an extra barrier method when starting and after each dose increase.
  • Because it slows stomach emptying, it can affect how other medicines are absorbed. Tell your prescriber about all medicines you take, including insulin and sulfonylureas.

Can I take Mounjaro long-term?

Yes, if it continues to be effective and well-tolerated. Your doctor or nurse will monitor your progress and adjust the dose if needed. Don’t stop using it without speaking to a healthcare professional.

Does Mounjaro replace diet and exercise?

No, Mounjaro works best when used alongside healthy lifestyle changes. Eating well and staying active will help maximise results and support your overall health.

How long does Mounjaro take to start working?

You may notice some changes to your appetite or digestion within the first week or two. However, it can take several weeks to see noticeable improvements in blood sugar levels or weight loss. Stick with it, and follow your diet and exercise plan for the best results.
